When talking about the technology we implement there are two seperate but important areas to talk about; hardware, such as servers and infrastructure, and software, such as the code and tools we use to build websites.

We use industry leading code, tools and packages to build websites for our customers. We use languages like PHP, CSS, Javascript and many more to achieve the effects we are looking for. We want to deliver stunning websites while avoiding languages that search engines can't read such as Flash websites.

We use top of the line servers, back-up systems, disaster recovery and onsite 24/7 hardware monitoring to keep it all delivering peak performance.

Hardware

At Sweet River Design we use Dual-Quadcore servers with a minimum of 8GB of memory. Our servers are maintained by a team of certified engineers 24/7 and have experienced 0 downtime since 2006. Additionally, the servers are housed in a super secure facility protected from power outages, fires and physical threats. As if that were not enough, our servers do a daily back-up for quick restoration of lost files!

All of this is backed up with the best internet and routers available.  That is why even our largest websites load faster than the competition.  One of our most robust websites was taking over 50 seconds when we shared a server on GoDaddy, now that same website is loading in less than a second!

One thing that many bargain priced, "off-shore" companies don't want you to know is that Search Engines know where your web site is located.  If you have a website with clients primarily in the US, but your website is hosted in India, the search engines will rank you lower than a website that is also hosted in the US.  To make sure we provide you the best service possible, we offer hosting in the US and the UK.

Software

To implement the mixture of languages and styles we use in a consistent, secure and supportable manner, we use the award winning Joomla! Content Management System. The Joomla! system is constantly tested and developed around the world by literally thousands of web designers and programmers. The Joomla! community also employs a "strike team" of dedicated professionals that focus solely on the security of the system.

Of course using Joomla! is almost like a chef saying he uses a top of the line oven. An oven is great, but what really matters is how one is used! In this business education and experience count as much as the ability to communicate clearly. Joomla! is so easy to use that we could probably get a well trained chimpanzee to create a website. On the other hand, we could also get a well trained chimp to bake a cake. Neither would be something you are likely to want to use - unless you are bringing the cake to your mother-in-law's birthday!

Our programmers are trained and experienced enough to create identical websites without the aid of Joomla! We just use it because it is thoroughly tested and faster than recreating the wheel. This expertise is important though when something does not work as planned or there is a special request. In fact, this skill is so important that our programmers must pass a difficult examination of unlikely scenarios prior to being hired.
